WHEN THE PEOPLE'S CHAMP MANNY PACQUIAO WAS STILL LOOKING FOR A MANAGER

It was April of year 2000, When i arrived from almost a year of stay in the states. I was looking for probable business to augment my deteriorating income in the Real Estate Business after we were badly hit by the Asian Crisis.

My LOVE of the sport BOXING brought me back to the small LM Gym in Paquita St. Sampaloc, Manila, Where i used to be there everyday to watch the training of my boxers from 1990 to 1993. I used to have nine boxers in my stable, training at LM GYM. I was able to developed a light weight Champion in two year time from the day i started managing The "Cadorna Boxing Stable".

One afternoon i visited the LM Gym, and i was looking for the former Trainer of my boxers Mr. Ben Delgado who happens to be my Trainer as an Amature boxer when i was still in Davao City way back 1975 at Davao Boxing Gym in Quirino Ave., Davao City. This Gym was own by Mr. Vic Quiambao.

In a few minutes some of the boxers in LM Gym Called up Manong Ben as i used to call him. He was so glad and so exited to see me again in the Gym! We shook hands and we had a cup of coffee in the canteen and started convincing me to Manage boxers again.
I was a bit cool and relaxed, but what i noticed in his eyes was his interest of working with me again. He whispered to me, I HAVE A GIFT TO YOU! I SAID, WHAT is it? He said, a boxer who is looking for a MANAGER. I ask him, what's his weight division? and he answered He is a mini-fly weight! He is a ten rounder already, he told me. I did not even ask the name yet, I just ask him, can i see him? In few minutes he introduce me a very young slim guy. I said ok, and the boxer went back inside the Gym silently. I commented to Manong Ben that I'm not interested to manage boxers again. Ben told me, Just get this boxer Peter, only one and I'll take care of him. I slowly ask Manong Ben, What's his (the Boxer) name? And he replied, His name is Manny Pacquiao from (Gensan)General Santos City, a City in Minadanao. I commented to Manong Ben, He's too thin for a boxer! I don't have trust in his built!

I did not even give a chance to talk to Manny Pacquiao because i was more interested in talking to Manong Ben. We haven't talked for more than a year. Few months later, Manny Pacquiao was manage by Mr. Polding Corea. This the first Manager of Manny Pacquiao in Manila. In a a year time Manny became a Flyweight World Champion. During the early year of training in Manila, it was Ben Delgado who handle Manny Pacquiao until he fought the World Super Bantam Weight IBF Championship against the Champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in the states where he knocked out Lebwaba in the 6th rd., Manong Ben was still with Manny during that fight where they met Freddie Roach. If you watch that fight in youtube you can see Manong Ben At the Corner of Manny together with Freddie Roach. That was Manny Pacquiao's turning point! That was the last time i saw Manong Ben in the fights of Manny Pacquiao. It was Freddie Roach head the training Camp and Boboy Fernandez.

I think, it was his way of thanking me of what i have done good to him in the past.
When i was about to close my Boxing Stable, Ben Delgado got blend! and it was his two eyes! When i saw him with his son Allan and his wife in the appartment i rented for him and the boxers, Ben could really not see. The wife was there who came from Davao City, handed to me Durian fruit since Davao City is famous for Durian. Without Ben asking for help, idecided to sent him to MCU Hospital in Caloocan City for the operation of his two eyes. Manong Ben is like a father to me. After the operation he was able to see again. After that I was out of Country for almost a year until we met again at LM GYM where he introduced Manny to me.

During Manny's fight with Oscar "Tiololo" Larios, a former world champion Mexican fighter in Araneta Collesium, Manny and his entourage checked in at Manila Hotel. Since it was near to my Real Estate Office in Ermita Manila, When i was connected with Moldex Realty, I decided to take my breakfast at Manila hotel in the Hope of talking to Manny Pacquiao so i can offer him some Real Estate Investment. But when i arrived at Manila Hotel, Manny Pacquiao was resting already at his room so with Gerry Pinalosa on the other room. I was able to talk first to Dodie Boy Pinalosa, the elder brother of Gerry and the former World Flyweight Champion also and in a while i was able to talked to Freddie Roach. I introduced myself, i handed it to him my Business Card.

We chat for few minutes, I mentioned about Manong Ben, and Freddie responded that he remember Manong Ben. He told me that, that was the last time he saw Ben Delgado during the first fight of Manny Pacquiao in the States. Since then, he haven't seen Ben Delgado anymore. This was also the first time Ben entered United states of America, and I was so glad seeing him in that fight. From there onward, i haven't seen Ben Delgado anymore...

While watching every fights and the success of the People's Champ Manny Pacquiao, I could not imagine the income he garnered from fights including the income of his Manager and the Trainers! At the start i regret of not giving the chance to manage Manny Pacquiao, But later on, I also realized that he is not for me. On the other hand I told my friends, Manny is Blessed! Jokingly I told them also, He might not be that successful as he is now, if I was the one managing him! HE! He! He!

After his 2nd fight with Eric Morales if I'm mistaken, Manny visited the LM Gym in Paquita St. in Sampaloc Manila with only One Companion, No body Guard at all. It happened that i was also there chatting with some Boxing Trainers who were my friends also. I was about to congratulate him for his Successful fight, But i could not afford to get closer to Manny, I was so Ashamed with him due to what had happen.

Until now, October 13, 2010, as I am editing this blog, I haven't talked to Manny, I don't even think if Manny could Remember me.

The morale of the lesson is READ NOT A BOOK BY IT'S COVER ALONE! SUCCESS IS A LONG PROCESS THAT YOU HAVE TO WENT THROUGH...THERE'S NO SUCH OVERNIGHT SUCCESS!

Thanks for your time, See you on my next posts, there are more interesting information about boxing management in the Philippines!

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao's Instinct to Succeed!

In my previous topic, I mentioned my trainer and the trainer of my boxers Ben Delgado who handled the training of Manny Pacquiao in Manila aside from Boboy Fernandez. Ben Delgado was one of those who accompanied Manny for his first fight to the United States for the Super Bantam Weight IBF Championship against the Champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba.

He was the corner man of Manny during that fight. Manny knocked out Lebwaba during that fight and became a World Super Bantam Weight IBF Champion. That fight was the turning point of Manny Pacquiao to stardum where he is right now! In spite of his big win over Lebwaba, An ordinary boxer would decide to retain Ben Delgado in his camp for his future fights in United States. Instead of retaining Ben Delgado, He choose Freddie Roach to handle his training for what ever reasons. One thing for sure, Ben Delgado is too old to handle Manny Pacquiao.

What i'm trying to drive at here is the way Manny Pacquiao decides for his career. He uses his head not his heart! He is gifted with that type of instinct. Even when choose a Manager, Much more during his fight in the ring. His impact to the crowd even during his early interview by the Media. The Instinct to win the heart of the people when he answers the question of the Media men. This was even developed little by little as he became more famous. It was the frequent interview by the Media that help developed Manny Pacquiao's confidence talking before a crowd.

This was even more intensified when he entered Politics, running for a Government Office as a Congressman in his Home Town. He failed on his first attempt. Just like his boxing career, he was knocked out during his early and mid career and yet became the Pound for Pound Best boxer in the World! A highly celebrated Stardum in his boxing career. The rug to riches story of Manny Pacquaio inspire a lot of people not only boxers but to all boxing fans in the entire World!

He opens new hope to those who just started their boxing career, not only in the Philippines, but in the whole world! Manny Pacquiao is a good Model to all who are involved in sports. Due to his instinct to succeed, His self discipline is built in, specially from the time he is on training and the time he fights in the ring.

More about Manny on my next topic.

When the conference was supposed to start at 8:00am , Only a few were awake! the rest were still sleeping! The same thing happened during the 2nd day of the conference. I suggested to our President, to start the conference late in the morning and end late in the evening, that schedule works and every body was happy!

and when it was finish we wre watching the sun down meeting the sea!
A lot of people having a picture taking of the beautiful sun set. And
little by little you will see the beautiful lights along that white
long beach. The action of the evening begins!

It was a moonlight night were almost everyone can't afford to sleep at
night in the Island. It's full of excitement, walking along the beach
at night while children and adults were playing different kind of games.
You can see husband and wife walking holdings hands to each other. Young
ones walking with their love ones holding hands with each other. It's a
place where you can express LOVE AND JOY! It's a place where couples
relationship can be renewed, A place where you can cement relationship
to make it more stronger than ever. A place where you can have a piece
of mind a get energized.

When you look at the clubs along the beach, all are full of customers of
different races, making fiends to each other. Everybody appreciates the
beauty of nature and the sounds of the clubs. During the early hour of
the evening, You can see people drinking all over the clubs. Towards the
later hour of the night, you can see almost everybody is dancing with joy!
Wow! it's entirely a different experience! A place where you can't afford

Saudi Experience (Part5)

Saudi Experience (Part5)

Three days after my arrival from Jeddah, My wife
and me met at the house of my cousin somewhere
in Quezon City where she endorsed to me our three
children (all boys). My problem was the kids could
no longer recognize me any more. It was my first
cousin Inday who became close to the kids after
thirty minutes of stay at my cousin's house.

Since i don't have the house to stay i have
decided to bring the kids to my Home Town in
Guindulman, Bohol. I convinced my first cousin
Inday to accompany me to Bohol because i could
not even hold the youngest, He will cry if i will
hold him. In the late afternoon, we proceed to the
Pier and rode at MV/Cebu City bound for Bohol.

It's a twenty four hour ride from Manila to the
Port of Tagbilaran City in Bohol. During the night
of our travel, we encounter a strong storm along
our way,and most of the passengers were seriously
praying, others were crying and all of the
children in that ship were crying. Very strong wind
and big waves were hitting us. I thought the ship
will sink. This lasted for more than three hours.
All of my kids were crying. We had a sleepless
night during travel. When all of the children
inside the ship were crying, That was also the time
that i was able to hold Jed (my youngest) who was
less than one year old during that time.

Every body was scared during that trip, but i was
very happy because i became closer to my kids
starting that night. When we arrived at home, my
parents and me were so glad to see the kids, but
at the same time asking also where's the mother?
So i have to explain the entire story to them. After
telling them the story, i told them my plans that
for the mean time i will leave the kids to them
for one month while looking for a house to stay
in Manila. All of their reactions except my father
were all negative! My mother told me, I'm old
already to take care of the kids. My married sister
also told me that she can't promise to help me. My
late brother who was about to get married during
that time told me also that he can't promise to
hepl me because he is getting married alredy.

I have nowhere to go except to bite the bullets.
For the last chance , i talked to my father that
i have to go back to Manila so i can look for a
House to live in. My father agree with me. The
following day I brought Julius (the eldest) to
my very close Aunt, the sister of my mother and
they agree to take care of Julius. The Eldest was
separated with his two younger brothers for a while.

I went back to Manila and was able to find a house
for us. My next problem was if i have to bring the
kids to Manila without a heper i can't move. First
week in Manila i sent some amount to my parents for
the kids expenses. It lasted for thre months before
i can get back the kids it's because i make sure to
produce a Sales before i got them back for financial
security. On the third month i went back to Bohol to
get the kids. I have to convinced my youngest sister
Juliet to go with me to Manila and promised here to
send to college. Since she just graduated from high
school, She agree with me. It was Juliet who played
the role of a mother to my kids until my youngest Jed,
was already first year high school. I owe a lot to
my sister Juliet because without her i can't be
effective in my job. At first i have to trained her
everything specially in managing the kids.

I have to research for training program on Quality
parenting and share it with juliet what i learn
from the program so that all our moves will be
coordinated. I have to read books on adult and
child psychology so as to understand the behavior
of the children so i can adjust to them. I bought
training program for the kids specially the
subliminal training. While the children are sleeping
i play the program. I enroll them in special training
programs like the Psykids. I enrolled them in swimming
lessons, in Drawing, in marital art to make them
active and develop the early self confidence.

When i started earning my millions, i decide to stay
in Valle Verde II so that they will grow in a good
environment and at the same time gain a self
confidence and build up a good network for the future.
When they were in Elementary,i enrolled them at
Montissouri and in high school they got special
sudjects for Math at KUMON School. This is a
school thet specialized in MATH for children. VERY
expensive school. All of my kids were junior golfers.

This is how i build up their foundation, thats why
i did not find hard time Managing them except during
the early years specially when one got fever, all
of them got fever. Their were so many sleepless
nights and pressures during their early years.

I was yet then a Top Producer in my job and got a lot
of promotions until i reach the Sr. Vice President
Position of Fil-Estate Group. I owe a lot also from
my Company for the contineous training that they
offered me, specially to my President Mr. Roger C.
Damasco who sponsored me at ASIAN INSTITUTE OF
MANAGEMENT, Though i shoulder all the expenses. I owe
it to Fil-Estate my Growth in the Real Estate
Profession. Thank you so much to all the people
behind the company.

Thanks to all the readers for you time.

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 4)

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 4)

After the two unforgetable experiences during my first month
in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, I was challenged to work double time
to generate fast income. That year 1985 was the start of the so
called Saudization, where in the Expats who are finish contract
were no longer renewed, Instead the jobs of the Expats were given
to Saudi Nationals.

Many highly paid Filipinos were finish contract, and those who were
left were the low and the average income earner only. Inspite of my
double time on my job selling Real Estate in the Philippines to
Filipino Contract workers in Saudi Arabia, My income was still so
slow. I decide to do some sidelines, I started to sell practically
anything to all Filipinos that i met. Form Hopia to siopao,
Door to Door Cargo, Door to Door remittance.

In most of the big Hospitals in Jeddah, Where most of the nurses
can't get out from the Hospital to buy anything they need to buy
in the Market, they'll just oder it from me, and i make a little
income on it. Remember, we don't have the salary, We were on
commmision basis. I really felt the pressure on how to make both
ends meet.It was May of 1985 when we arrived in Jeddah, Saudi
Arabia. After few months of working there, all of my companions
were going home for Christmas! All of us did not make as far as
income that we were expecting to earn. That's the reason i did not
go with them. I was left in our office and at the same time our
Villa. Few days before they left for Manila, I recieved a news
from one of my people in Manila saying that my wife has a
relationship to another man.

With the loneliness and boredom that everyone of us experienced in
Jeddah, I was a bit affected, My office mates were counseling me,
But i did not show them my negative reactions. After they left for
Manila, i was alone in the office and our villas. Our head for that
International operation hired a partime bookeeper/accountant, to
do the reporting and the remittance of all collections for Manila.
The accountant will report to the office after his duty from his
company, since it was just his second job.

After few months since my office mates left for Manila, I recieved
another news from the same person from Manila. This person is very
close friend of mine. This time the news was really bad! My wife was
three months pregnant! It prompted me to call Manila and i was able
to talked to my wife. It was positive that she is pregnant! When she
told me about it, there was a sudden change of feelings deep inside,
I trembled while talking to her, I could not understand my feelings,
I don't know what to say, It was a mixed emotion! I don't even know
if i was angry? All i ask from her was who will take care of the
kids? And she told me to go home because she will endorse the three
boys to me. The youngest during that time was less than one year old,
the second was two years old and the eldest was five years old. I
agree, but i can't go home immediately because i don't yet have the
money.

This was the start of my being mentally and emotionally tortured.
There were so many sleepless nights, Where i made nights into days
and days into nights. I was counting minutes into hours, hours
into days, days into months and months into years. There were
moments that i have to ask the almighty, What have i done wrong?
But since i'm alone, i have to answer my own question, I have to
move on! I continued on my daily routine, However, this time i
don't have the direction driving my car. I felt floating on the
air! This lasted for more than a month. On the second month i
started talking to my self, convincing myself to put focus and
redirect myself.

I was back on my foot on the second month and double time on
my sidelines. I happen to drop by a Korean store selling golden
necklace with a cute pendants, So bought one and i offer this
to Filipinos for installment basis for two gives. I bought it
at SR. 75.00 (Saudi Riyal) and sold it at Sr. 175.00. I sold
twenty pcs. in two weeks, and i made some income. After i completed
the collection of the balance, I schedule myself to go back to Manila.
I told my friends with regards to my vacation because it's a new
Filipino culture there in Saudi that who ever go home for a vacation
many of their friends will send even letters to their families.
During those year no body knows about internet. Mails would usually
take a month before it can reach to the destination.

The days before my flight, i got an early visitor in the office
looking for me, I thought they will send letters for their families,
They were four of them returning back the necklace to me because
it was a fake gold. Since they know that i'm going Home for Manila,
they even threaten me if i'll not give back the money, they will go
to the airport and advice the Immigration for a hold order. I did not
know that it was a fake gold since the korean guy told me it was pure
gold. And besides we were in a country which has a lot of gold. If you
will go to the gold Market, you will find plenty of golds. You can
even build a building of gold! Without hesitation i gave back their
money. These four guy knew that i'm going home but they don't know
the exact date of my flight. It was only me who knows the exact date
of my flight. There were more friends of these four guys who bought
from me. They told me that the following day, they'll be back with
their three friends. So i just told the four guys to bring the necklace
so i can give back their money. I told them also that i'll return it
to the Korean store were i bought the necklace.

My flight was 9:00am the following day, so i should be at the
airport at 6:00am. When i was about to get my boarding pass, i
saw the six guys were there at the airport. They drove for their
friend to the airport who is bound for Manila. I pretend to be
relaxed, and i approached them and ask for the necklace so i can
give back the money to them. Since they did not brought the necklace
with them, we just agree that i'll give the money to their family
once they can send the necklace to Manila. It's easy for them to send
the necklace to Manila since almost every other day they have friends
going Home for Manila whose contract were finish. I was a little
bit nervous while talking to them at the airport because they can
cause a delayed on my flight if they want to do it. I felt so
guilty to the people whom i sold the necklace who didn't know that
it was a fake gold. Had i still have the time to return back their
money and get back the necklace, I'll do it. I'm really sorry for
the other customers.

My exit was normal, and when i arrived Manila, i was fetched by my
President and some office mates together with my wife. Since my
President knows our problem, He immediately offer a room for me in
his house. We proceed to my President's house and i gave chocolates
to everyone including my wife and for the kids.

After few minutes of talking to my office mates and my Boss,
since they know our problem, they give as time to talk privately,
then we agree on the date, time and place for her to endorse the
kids to me. Few Minutes later everybody went home already.

More Excitements and thrills on my next chapter!

1. What was the reaction of the kids, they did not saw me for
more than a year?
2. Where did i brought them, i don't have the house?
3. How did i manage, my kids and my career? I was a top
producer in our company?
4. What happen to my career and my kids when i started
managing them three?

See you on the next chapter, (part 5)

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 2)

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 2)

MY SECOND WEEK IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA!

It was Ramadan when we arrived there! A Total change of environment in culture and religion. Since our job was to sell real estate to Filipino market who were working there, and the properties are in the Philippines, we did the familiarization of the area and at the same time looking for leads who knows the big Filipino camps.

We were successful in the first few days of getting leads. We were brought to big Filipino camps and do big group presentations usually inside the camp canteen. my first presentation was a group of 20, but during my second presentation the following day, since it was well campaign with the help of the first 20 participants who turn into my agent's, the attendance was more than 600 Filipinos attending the presentation during launch break.

I got some good leads that turn into sales. I got my ice breaker sales for the group!
Every body of our group was so glad with my first three sales. All were motivated! everybody are on a high gear! We gain the momentum!

There was one tip, that the biggest Filipino camp having 6,000 Filipinos was in the area going to the Holy City of Medina, This is the center of Muslim religion. Just like the catholics the center is in Rome. No other person can get inside the city except the muslims! Rules are very strict to non-Muslims!

It was on my 10th day in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. After my first three sales, the following day, Our group decided to explore the big camp in the direction going to the Holy City of Medina. We were including me, we organized ourselves, The son of the late Ex-Senator Manahan decided to drive, i became the navigator because i'm good at directions, the other member was our support who prepare for the food and everything for our trip.

Remember, nobody knows the area thats why we organized ourselves forgetting that it was Ramadan and you are not authorized to eat, drink, or even smoke a cigarette while on the road during the day time! We depart from our villas @ 8:00am on our way to the camp. We were both excited about the trip and the objective of closing more sales, since it was a big population.

Full of excitement, lot of stories, jokes being shared among the three of us. We were two hours and a half already on the road at the speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The high way was eleven lane wide one way to to the area of the Holy city of Medina. We position ourselves on the fast lane. All of a sudden we noticed the sign "FOR MUSLIMS ONLY", Since our speed was so fast, we missed to go to the right lane for an exit! Here comes the "ENTRY POINT" to the Holy city! NO MORE TIME TO THINK of what to do except to pass to the "ENTRY POINT" It was a long line to the entry point, remember we are on the fast lane "The left Lane" and it was eleven lane wide, there's no way for you to go to the last right lane, and no more exit!

Every cars were search and ask to present the "IQAMA". This is a travel document in replacement for our passport. It is part of their system that all foreigners will surrender the passport to their employers upon arrival. We were all tensed already and told my companions that we'll just make a U turn after the entrance. All of us were silent because we knew that the color of the Muslim IQAMA is white and the Christian IQAMA is brown. All of the security in the entry point were policeman holding high powered long arm in a battle gear! My estimate is they were about 20 police man in the area. Going inside the Holy City if you're not a Muslim, is punishable by capital punishment, meaning DEATH!. We were two cars away from the checkpoint, we have decided not to show our EQAMA since we know that we will be apprehended, instead we decided that during our turn, we just get inside very quickly and look for a road where we can exit along the way.

Going inside the Holy City from the check point will take about 50 kilometers. Here comes our turn! Our driver starts the car like we are in a driving competition at a very high speed immediately. Police Patrol where running after us! We gain the momentum at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour, Two Patrols car were behind us, and i'm sure they have coordinated already inside the The Holy City. To my estimate, we've drove 20 kilometers already but we can't find an exit. While i was looking at the faces of my companions, it seems the color their face has no more blood already! So as with me, there was no time to look at my face in the mirror, We were all silent for the past 30 minutes. I broke the long silence and said to my partners, LET'S ALL PRAY that we can find and exit. In less than 3 minutes, The tire of the van ahead of us exploded its rear tire and bump into the wire fence cause the wire fence to fall down. There, We found and exit! We made a U-turn as fast as we could, the two Patrol cars maybe did not noticed that we made a U-turn already. All of our heart beat were so fast. When we made the U-turn this time, we can breath regularly, However, here comes again the check point! At a distance we can't recognized the policeman yet, Our heart beat so fast again, because we knew that this time we'll be caught already. We were all nervous!

We made a quick strategy, but my partners were silent again, so i decided and told our driver not to slowdown down at the exit, Just bump anybody who will stop us, then we'll get their fire arms. We are less than a kilometer away, so nervous of what will happen next? Thanks God, there was no police man on the exit! We were celebrating our successful exit, I call "THE GREAT ESCAPE!", WE SHOUT AND LAUGH! But i noticed that our partner who is seating at the back was asking for help! His knees were shaking and he can't even manage top stop it! He ask me to open the bag for his medicine. He was under heart attack. I gave him his medicine and water, and in few minutes, He recovered.

We slow down at 80 kilometers per hour from a speed of 180 kph. All cars passing by were looking at us, Some seems they look like mad at us! We were eating apple and drinking juice just to normalized our blood pressure. We forgot it was Ramadan! So we stop what we were doing very quickly and back to silence again. Their were many ideas coming out of my mind during the long silence. I was thinking of the Policeman might still be looking for us, So i suggest to the one driving not to pass through the high way, so we took the secondary road then we got lost!

We arrived back to the villas at around 2:00pm already! We were all exhausted! Inspite of the exhaustion, I could hardly sleep during the night. My sub concious
mind keeps on playing back the incident which is the reason that i can't sleep. It
took me two days before my mind normalized.

See you on the (Part 3), More exciting! Full of thrill!

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 3)

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 3)

Exactly one week after the incident in Medina, My good friend who was sitting at back experienced a heart attack during the Medina escape was with me again. We were together at the public market in Jeddah, where many Filipinos gathered specially during Friday.

We were campaigning for our projects in Manila. We were talking to several Filipinos who were in groups. Some were in cultural groups coming from one Town or one Province, other were groups coming from one company.

We started our campaign 10:00am. We ate our lunch separately because we were with our new friends. At 4:00pm, i felt hungry so i have to talk to my friend so we can have some snacks. When i look at my wallet, i don't have the local currency which is
Riyal. All i had was $100.00 which was my first commission. I ask permission from my friend that i have to go to the bank to change my dollar into Riyal so we can have our snacks.

I went to the bank and approached the teller to have it change my $100.00 to Riyals. I gave my $100.00 to the teller. I was uneasy because i was so hungry and tired and it was more than 15 minutes already and still i did not get the money yet, so i approached the teller again and he was asking me my EQAMA. With out hesitation, i gave it. But to my surprise he told me to go upstairs to the managers' office. Again, with out any complain i went upstairs and talked to the Manager.

When i was inside the office of the bank manager, He politely said to me to sit down.
So i sat in front of him and i was waiting for the question. He pulled out my $100.00 and start throwing questions to me. First question was, where did i get the money?, second was how did i get the money? Since my mind set was we were there in Jeddah to sell Real Estate, and i know that we have the sponsor because no one can go there with out sponsor. My mind was clear and i answer the bank manager that it was actually my first commission. He looked at my IQAMA and looked at me with out saying any words. I did not know that what was written in my IQAMA since it was written in Arabic, It says that my visa was a mechanic! May be the bank manager was surprised how i get a commission since my job supposed to be was a mechanic? The investigation goes further with out me knowing that i was already trapped!

I was even exited to tell the bank manager regarding our Real Estate Business! I was more than one hour inside the bank, and i was so hungry! Until finally he told me that the money was a fake dollar! I was shocked, with mixed emotion, i could not understand what i fell! The bank manager told me, if he will call the Police which has an office just beside the bank, He told me that i'll go to jail for 20 yrs. for that fake dollar! Oh my God! i start to recall what had happen to me, barely less than a month in Jeddah but encountering so many problems! I told myself, My God, what will happen to my family left in the Philippines? I'm the bread winner, if i'll go to jail for 20 yrs., what will happen to them? Son many questions were asked deep inside!

The bank manager told me, you will be save if you can bring the person to my office before midnight. Since it was Ramadan and the office is until 12:00 midnight. He just issue me a travel document in replacement for my IQAMA. He kept my IQAMA and told me better be back before midnight, you can't escape! And that travel document is only up to midnight. He told me, If you're not back by midnight, i'll call the Police and your name will be blocked in all exit point of Saudi Arabia. That's how strict Saudi Arabia is.

So i went back to my friend who was left in one area where there were many Filipinos.
He was already wondering why it took me so long, but since he was busy briefing many Filipinos he just wait for my coming back. When he saw me coming back, i can read it in his face that he was exhausted already and hungry. I told him with some facial expression of anxiety, It's really a bad day! He asked me why? And i told him the story and told him him, let's go back to the villas, time to me is very precious. So we took a taxi and while we were in the taxi, Here comes again hi heart attack! I told him to relax and ask him to take his medicine. When we arrived at our villas, he was already relived. I did not put much attention on him because i was trying to think of ways on how to save myself. So many questions pop up my mind were an answered.

Back grounder of the fake dollar; I sold a lot to a Filipino who work at Sarawat Supermarket in Jeddah as a cashier. He paid that dollar to me as part of the down payment of the lot he purchased. He doesn't know also that the dollar was fake! Since the transaction was full down payment, i claim my commission from our office. Incidentally the fake dollar went to me as a payment for my commission.

We report the incident to our President who was with us in Jeddah to observe our operations. It was 5:30pm when we reported to him the incident, but to my surprise he responded to me to go on working first and solve it later. Remember, i was only given up to 12:00 midnight, and i have to talk to the person whom i got the fake dollar. My problem was, What if the cashier from Sarawat will not go with me to the bank to explain about the fake dollar? My President told me that he will be the one to talk to the cashier and he gave me the assurance that he can bring the person to the bank before midnight. But question again is what if the cashier will not go with my President? What will happen to me? But still since the President's command was to work until 8:00pm, we went back to the field and work again. This time, i was not in my presence of mind.

It was 8:00pm already so, we all meet at the Supermarket and i did not allow my President to talk to the cashier, Instead i do the talking. With full of prayers, the cashier promise me he'll go with me to explain. I was glad with his answer but still, questions pop up again to my mind, what if along the way he will change his mind, what will i do? The cashier will be off by 10:00pm, so we have to wait for him. At exactly 10:30pm the cashier was inside our car. We proceeded to the bank and but along the way it was so traffic. My heart was beating so fast every now an then, We finally reach the bank at 11:45pm. We Talked to the manager again and i presented to him the cashier explaining that he was the person who gave me the fake dollar as a payment of his lot he purchased from us. The manager explain to the cashier the consequence that he will go to jail for 20 yrs. if he will not tell the truth. The bank manager told me, your problem is solved, And let the cashier explain about the source of the fake dollar. Politely the cashier explain to the bank manager that there was one Saudi National who was begging for help to change his dollar for his taxi fare. The cashier told the bank manager that he was just so kind to help the Saudi with out malice on his mind. After knowing that it came from Saudi National, The bank manager told the cashier to burn the dollar in front of him so his problem will be solve. Immediately the cashier burn the dollar in front of the bank manager. While the dollar was burned, my President and four other colleagues started to look at the wall clock, and it's exactly 12:01am. They started singing birth day song to me. It was already June 15, 1985, and it was my 29th birth day! They started embracing me, the bank manager also sang with them and greeted me happy birth day!

See you in my next chapter, my Experience in Saudi Arabia (part 4) It's Full of of thrill! Don't miss it!

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 1)

EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 1)
EXPERIENCE IN SAUDI ARABIA (Part 1)

It was after the death of the late Ex-Senator Ninoy Aquino in Aug. 15, 1984, When Philippine experienced a down trend in the economy. I was one of the top performer in the real estate company i used to worked with.

I was Sales manager during that time. Since the country was experiencing an economic crisis, Our Company decided to operate in the Middle East particularly in Saudi Arabia.
We were five sent to Middle East to handle the International operation. Two of our members were an employee of the company, We were three who are in sales. We in sales don't have the salary and allowance, only the two employees.

We in sales even pay our own plain tickets and share in the rentals of the villas together with the two employees. The two employees all company expense.

We have the strong guts to accept the assignments due to the crisis we experience in the Philippines. during the pre-departure briefing at PHILIPPINE OVERSEAS EMPLOYMENT ADMINISTRATION (POEA) office, We were informed the do and don'ts of SAUDI ARABIA. One of which is you are not allowed to look at straight to the eye of Saudi ladies.

During our arrival at the airport of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, all of as have to look down at the floor everytime we pass by a lady. We were so afraid of their culture.
We felt like we were the uneducated people in the land of the Saudi's. My comment to the briefing at POEA was too much, to the point that we were all intimidated by the Saudi people.

My Boxing Stable

My Boxing Stable
It was in 1992 when i filed a license at the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) to manage the "CADORNA BOXING STABLE", where i started recruiting boxers to be trained and develop into a Champion! I had in my stable; Al Pelinio, Andy Espinosa, Dinky Jagdon, Darry "Boy" Caballes, Dodong Peligrino, Bayong Peligrino and Paul Bersaluna, Tirso Ranque. They were the initial boxers in my stable, and later on, i add two boxers.

It was the initiative of Ben Delgado, who was my former boxing trainer in Davao City to organized the stable. He was the one handling the training of all of my boxers. I house them in an apartment in Paquita St. in Sampaloc, Manila just infront of LM Boxing Gym own by Mr. Lito Modejar. It doesn't took as too long to developed a New Philippine Lightweight Champion when Darry "Boy" Caballes was given an opportunity to challenge the reigning Champion Bernabe Aliping from Baguio, City during that time. Caballes won by technical knockout on the 5th round when the Champion failed to answer the bill. Caballes became the New lightweight Champion of the Philippines.

Darry "Boy Caballes became the pride of our stable and he was able motivates everybody including other boxers at LM Gym. We morning the night so to speak, to Celebrate his Victory at LM Gym together with all the boxers and Trainers who were staying in the LM Gym. One of which was Tacy Macalos, who later on became a WBC flyweight Champion, Rolando "Jojo" Pascua who became also a WBC flyweight Champion, Eric Chavez, who also became a World Flyweight Champion, so with Morris East who also became a World Weltherweight Champion, Etc.

That was the happiest moment of our stable. Few weeks later, we had an offer for a title defense against William Magahin. For our preparation for the title defense against William Magahin, Ben (the trainer)suggested to schedule for a none title fight against a lightweight contender Armando Andrade. The fight was held in Daet, Bicol. It was Ben who accompanied Caballes to Bicol together with his son Allan as a helper and one more trainer. They went two days ahead of me because i just have to take a plane on the day of the fight. Unluckily there was no flight schedule during the day of the fight. There was no way for me catch up the fight. If i'll take by land travel, From Manila it'll take 10 hrs. drive and it was after lunch already when i called up the airport to book my flight.

I was at LM Gym the following day waiting for a news of the fight. To my surprised, It was only Ben Delgado who was in the Gym, The boxer and the other trainer so with his son Allan was not around! I was looking straight to Ben's eyes asking him, where are they? His facial expression was so depressed and slowly reporting to me in a very cool voice, and very low pitch.

As per Ben's report, as he slowly told me the entire story, The fight lasted for scheduled 10 rounds but Caballes lost the fight because he lost his stamina in the mid rounds. After the fight manong Ben was surprised of Caballes behavior because Caballes want to fight the Policemen around, Caballes became wild. So they brought Darry "Boy" Caballes to the nearby Hospital for a check up and eventually sleep their. At around 1:00am, Caballes was asking for food and the trainer gave him food. After eating Caballes went to sleep again. It was around 4:00am when they found out that Caballes was dead already.

His body was examined through an Autopsy, and there was a findings of blood clotting behind his nape. It was only Ben who went back to Manila to bring that bad news and the two Allan and the other trainer were left in the hospital to take care of the remains of Caballes. To cut the long story short, His body was brought to Manila after two days and stayed for four days in Manila before i brought it to his Home Town in Cebu City. We received some money from the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), i'm not sure if that's an insurance or contribution, the amount of PHP5,000.00.

The irony of this was, when the body of Caballes was in Manila, That was also the time that the write up regarding my success story written by Quinito Henzon was released and the Major feature was when Darry "Boy" Caballes became a New Champion! It was a one full page issue with the picture of the Champion during the fight. This was published in the Sport Weekly Magazine in May of 1993. It was a mixed emotion on my part and with the entire member of my Stable.

Experiencing a member of a our Stable died after the fight, And he as a Champion, all of my boxer's morale were down including the Ben Delgado (the trainer). It took several weeks before they resume a proper training. There were collections during the four day wake amounting to PPH3,000.00 only. Finally, We got the schedule for Cebu, But my friends were telling me not to go there since the home place of Caballes was a depressed area and noted for the hide out of Criminals.

I decided to go against the advice of my friends in boxing. I went to Cebu with the two sisters of Caballes and with me was the "LUZPROBA" Luzon Professional Boxing Association Secretary Maming Pascua, who used to be the Manager of Rolando "Jojo" Pascua, and Allan Delgado the son of Ben Delgado. Few minutes before we land at the Pier of Cebu, the two sisters of the late Darry Caballes told me, It's up to you to protect yourself! They are all Angry with you! That was the statement of the two sisters to me. We finally land, I saw six men wearing lose shirts waiting for the coffin of Caballes to download. There were three of the six having short fire arms.

I finally went down and introduced myself to them. I was holding my clutch bag and i live it open to show them psychologically that i have also a fire arm. My opening statement to them was "I KNOW THAT YOU'RE MAD AT ME, BUT CAN YOU ALLOW ME TO TALK FOR FEW WORDS"? and the response was go ahead! I told them No body wants this to happen! My objective when i got Darry "Boy" Caballes in my stable was to developed him to become a world Champion! And lastly if i have misgivings on Darry, i won't show up! I'm here because i considered him as a family member!

The head spoke to the group and told them, I'll take care of Peter Cadorna! You can go ahead to the house. I don't know what does he mean for his statement but i was on alert. The truth of the matter is i don't have any fire arm with me! We were left in the Pier together with his one body guard and my two companions. The mother of Darry "Boy Caballes was demanding me top replace the coffin worth PHP30,000.00 more or less
and demand for best funeral services. I spoke to the group head whom i found out later happens to be an Ex-Military, the Uncle and the first Boxing trainer of Darry "Boy" Caballes. It was him who spoke to the mother not to demand that much. While we were waiting at the funeral home, we had sharing of thoughts, information and Insights. I was surprised when the Uncle told me that the Champion was communicating to him frequently even before Caballes became a Champion with all the praises on my way of managing the boxers as a whole in my stable. At this point in time, I was a bit relaxed with the feeling of winning little by little his trust and respect.

It was already 6:00pm, I hand it to the mother the amount we collected and i gave some amount as my personnal money to her to help for the burial expenses. We proceed to the house of the mother of Caballes where i met a lot of drunk people with knife even with hand gun on their waist. The Bombo Radio personnel was their to interview me, this is the famous Radio Station in Cebu City, Since they got a lot of information ahead, they no longer talked to me. It was my 5th night that i don't have complete sleep, since the wake started in Manila.

In few minutes the dinner was ready. With his group we were on a long table together with my two companions. The food was ready, but what was in my mind was a defense move. I told the head we won't eat if you'll not start eating. From where he started taking his food, and i just follow him where he got his food. It was a nice dinner! He smiled at me! And i whispered to him , I hope you understand, He said it's ok! Being an Ex-Military, he understand my message. I was hesitant to eat afraid if the food they prepare for us might have poison.

After we ate our dinner, i have to ask permission so we can take a rest to a near by cheap Hotel. He drove us to the Hotel and we checked in there. After few minutes i told Allan, the son of my trainer, Check them if they're still around, and if they're gone, we must checked out. I instructed Allan to call a taxi, so we checked out and rode a Taxi and i told them, we can't afford to stay on this Hotel, they are in control! I was surprised that the Hotel was paid already! It was 11:00pm already and we went direct to the Pier upon knowing from the Taxi Driver that a Ship bound for Manila is about to leave by 2:00am. When they were on the ship, i told my companions, i won't go with you, have to look for a ride bound for Bohol which is my Home Province. In a week time, i'll be their in Manila. These were the moves i was thinking of, to protect ourselves. When i arrived to my Parent's house bringing that bad news, my mother was crying. My home town friends were also sad of what had happened to my boxer. He died as a Champion!

About Myself

I was born in June of 1956 in a small town of Guindulman,
a province of Bohol in the Islands of the Visayas, Philippines.

People from the province just like me, who viewed Manila as
A PARADISE!

Bohol is famous for its chocolate hills.
This is one of  the seven wonders of the world,

And the smallest monkey in the world, The Tarsier from my Province Bohol.

I started working as a baker earning P15.00/mo. in 1969.

During weekends I do some side line, working in a hollow

blocks factory. During rainy season, I help my father do

farming. I do some fishing at night also since our house is

just few meters away from the seashore. I sometimes fight

in the ring just to earn P15.00 for a three rounds.

Life in the province could hardly met both ends. I was a

self supporting student from high school to college. I was

out of school for 5yrs. after high school! And it took me

9 yrs. to finish my marketing course!

Bohol is famous also for its fiesta. The entire month of May,

there’s no day that there’s no fiesta in different barrios and towns.

Check the schedules from this link:
 http://visit-bohol.blogspot.com/2012/04/fiesta-calendar-of-bohol-towns.html

It was during this month of may of 1975, that one of our

neighbor took a vacation with his family from Manila just

to attend our town fiesta. I did not know him personally

since they’d been in Manila for so long long.

I saw this as an opportunity! I talked to my father asking

help from him to introduce me to the person because my

plan was to apply even as a house helper so I can see the

big city of  Manila. I told my father even without salary as long

as I can reach the Big of Manila. To us from the Province, We look at Manila as a Paradise!

Since they were friends, I was accepted and the He told me to produce money for my

own fare. The fare during that time from Bohol to Manila

taking a ship was only PHP45.00. I have to approach my

Aunt for my fare and she lend PHP65.00. I only have

PHP15.00 left in my pocket when we arrived in Manila May

17, 1975.

First day, I was toured to his work place at Tropical Hut Super Mart.

The second day, I went back to his work place

without his knowledge an applied for a janitorial job.

There requirements that was asked from me, and on the 5th

day I submitted all the requirements and started working.

They were all shocked when I told them that I will start

working in the same company. Good they were not mad at me,

instead they were all happy for me! There were some people

who were staying in the same house some of them were their

relatives who were jobless for more than a year.

This was the start of my life story in Manila! I thought

it was really a Paradise at the start, it was not!  It was only

then after passing through the process of success!

I started working as a janitor, then few months later, I

became a friend to my Branch Manager. I asked favor from

him for me to be assign in a department where working

schedule is fixed so I can attend my night classes in

college. My request was granted and i was assigned then to

the warehouse department.

I was the smallest guy in the warehouse. During that time

I only weigh 105 lbs. When I was introduced to the head of

the warehouse. He shocked his head and told the Manager

what will he do here? This is a heavy job! I need big

guys! The Manager told the head of the warehouse, no

problem, he is used to do hard labor, He is also a boxer. I

was accepted in that department, then I started working at

the warehouse department and eventually enrolled in my

night classes in college.

Since my salary was only P4.00/day, it’s not enough for my

tuition fees. I talked to my land lord to sell the idea of

putting up a hot pandesal since I know how to bake and

they buy the idea. I had an extra income of P80.00/month

and I was free for my board and lodging. My schedule at

Tropical Hut was 8:00am to 4:00pm, and i have to attend to

my evening classes starting from 6:00pm up to 10:00pm.

I'll be home by 11:00pm. and started working for the hot

pandesal at 11:30pm.,and finish it at around 1:30 am. I

have to sleep at around 2:00pm and wake up at 4:30am. to

cook the bread and finish it at around 6:30am. I'll sleep

again for an hour and at around 7:30am I'll have to rush

to my job at Tropical Hut Super Market. This lasted for

more than two years until was already oriented in Manila I

started to scout for new opportunity.

I Transferred to Big 20 Hamburger Rest., A newly open Burger

Restaurant in 1977.

The Owner of this Restaurant was the the Sons of the former and Original owner of Tropical Hut who migrated to Australia and they return to the Philippines to operate the Big 20 Hamburger Rest.

From Left, Mr. Nandy Bondal-Big 20 Area Director, Peter Cadorna- Branch Manager, Jhovanny Lumanog-Asst. Area Director, Mario Sacal- Asst. Branch Manger. It was the first Christmas Party
of Big 20 Hamburger Rest. that was held in Max Rest. in Makati City, Philippines.
I started as a food clerk with Big 20, and got a several promotions.  In a span of two yrs., I became
a Branch Manager in one of the 9 Branches. My foundation on Managerial and Leadership skills started in this Company. From here on, My mind start to think of a a Big Time Income!

I started to venture into Real Estate Selling Business in 1978! The easy way to make a huge income
with a limited seed money to start.

I happened to met a home town mate who worked at V.V.

Soliven Realty. This was the biggest Real Estate Marketing

firm during that time, and I was invited to attend the

seminar for Real Estate selling.
This was the start of my real estate career on this Building V.V. Soliven Shopping Complex!

It was not wine and roses at the start,

I have to pass through the acid test of survival

since this time, it’s a commission basis no salary!

For four months I did not close a single sale. Many times

during the start that I experienced one day one eat so to

speak. I even have to dropped my enrolled units several times

during my first few years in college while i start my Real

Estate Selling Career.

It took me nine yrs. to finish my Marketing course.

It was an on and off since there was no permanent income.

What matter most to me was, my mind set was to succeed in life!

No matter what and how hard will it take. I was determined to succeed!

I knew that the road to success is not that easy. I was mentally, physically

and emotionally prepared to meet any type of challenges and frustrations

along my way towards Success.

This was the University of Hard Knocks that i was studying for a long time!

I eventually conquered it!

In January of 1981, a Group of V.V. Soliven people forming a new Real Estate

Company. It was headed by Noel Carino- V.V. Soliven Branch Manager, Bob Sobrepena- V.V.

Soliven Training Director/Marketing Manager, Atty. Ferdie Santos- V.V. Soliven Legal Officer.

They form Fil-Estate Realty, a Real Estate Marketing Company which eventually became a big time

Real Estate Developer in the 90's. These 3 leaders became a Billionaire in the Real Estate Business.

I joined them from the start in 1981, And i was one of those pioneer in the Company. The reason

why i join was, I believed that in a small Company, You can fill the passion of the the owners in

operating the Business because i experienced it at Big 20 Rest. Since Real Estate Business is Big

time, I want to know the ins and out of the Business.

I put up my Boxing Stable where i Manage nine boxers and was able to developed one

Philippine Champion on the light weight division in 1992.

Darry "Boy" Caballes was the pride of our Stable! After

two months of being the Philippine Light Weight Champion,

He fought for a none title fight against Armando Andales

in preparation for a title defense. This was the saddest

part because after the fight, he was brought to the

hospital and died due to blood clotting in some area of

his nick. I will discuss the full details from his death

up to his burial where i experienced full of tensions.

I discuss this full story on my blog entitled My Boxing Stable.

Let me proceed on my studies, I continued attending training programs and seminars.

I even invested a lot of money in my post graduate courses just to sharpen my

knowledge and skills.

I took up my TOP MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

COURSE (TMP) in ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT (AIM) that

was held in PHUKET THAILAND in JUNE of 1997 where i spent

almost P500,000.00 for one month course including Hotel

accommodation and plane ticket.

In Fil-Estate, This is where I found the light towards my success!

I stayed with this company for more than 20 yrs..

I got married in 1980 and we got three children all boys.

I was assigned for an International Post in the Middle

East particularly in Jeddah Saudi Arabia in 1985. I was

the country manager to handle the sales and marketing of

Fil_Estate. We sell Real Estate in the Philippines to the

Filipino community in the Middle East. When I left for the

Middle East, my wife was four months pregnant to my

youngest son. I stayed there for almost two years.

One and a half year later, I got a news from a close

friend of mine telling me that my wife was with another

man and three months pregnant.

Could you imagine receiving such news while experiencing

homesick in the foreign land? I decided to go home after I have

talked to my wife and we agree on who will take care of the children.

She decided that she will endorse the kids to me when I arrive. Their

age during that time the youngest was one yr. old, He was

born In Nov. 5, 1985 the second was three yrs. old, Born
